Hollywood paid a recent visit to Prince George's County, while searching for 3 to 5 potential reality show stars. If you enjoy watching true-to-life scenarios of a different flavor unfold, one possibility is brewing. Today marked the deadline for local paramedics to audition for 'EMS in America-Maryland.' Dick Clark Productions videotaped candidates for the pilot episode.

According to Mark E. Brady, Prince George's County's Fire/EMS Department worked with the executive producer, David Furtado, years ago. Mr. Furtado now works for Dick Clark Productions, and expressed interest in developing a pilot program.  I was informed that authorizing accesibilty to events is something that not all departments will permit. However, Mr. Brady provided a compelling reason that access was granted.

"Not often do paramedics get to be in the spotlight. We're always looking for opportunities to highlight them," the Chief Spokesperson of Prince George's County's Fire/EMS Department continued.

Statistics posted on the county's website reveal that Prince George’s County's Fire/EMS Department responded to a total exceeding 122,600 calls for service last year.

Considering that firefighters are historically highlighted more often than EMS workers, it will not be surprising if Furtado will be able to gather unique material to craft a sharp pitch. After completion of approximately 25 paramedic interviews over a 3 day period, 8 months of collaboration, and ride alongs with crews, first responders returned to their often life-saving work tasks. In 30 to 60 days, more news about the potential project is expected.
